On February 12, 2014, The NAACP will celebrate its 105th birthday….Please continue to call, email, or text someone and invite them to become a part of this great organization dedicated to assisting in the uplifting, growth and health of our community—the Irving Branch NAACP.
The harvest is ripe, but the laborers are few! What if the NAACP had made excuses and not stood up for us -- standing for us since 1909? Freedom was not free, and still isn’t! We need your support!

The Annual NAACP Convention was held in Las Vegas, NV July 19 through July 23. The event was another grand occasion. The theme this year was “All in for Justice and Equality”. We heard from several leaders of the NAACP including our new President and CEO William Cornell Brook, our Interim President Lorraine Miller, our National Board Chair Roslyn Brock and our good friend’s in Washington, DC Hillary Shelton and Vice President Joe Biden. Each presenter talked about the importance of the 2014 election. I have scanned the resolutions from both 2013 and 2014 and will send them to you prior to or next meeting.

Please schedule your voters registration drives with your church secretary and Pastor and ask them to make announcements that you will be registering voters on Sept. 7 through Oct. 4. Nov. 4 is a critical election date and we must encourage everyone’s participation. The Voter ID law is in effect and everyone’s government issued id must match their Voter ID card.
Our Service Project is a Mac and Cheese drive to support Irving Cares! Thanks to all whom participated in this event. We have received a letter of thanks from Irving cares for our 200 pound donation of Mac and Cheese.

On August 18, 2014, we need to attend the Irving I.S.D. School Board meeting once again to visit with the “After School Programs” as well as their staffing. It appears that once again that the Irving Independent School District is in a hiring process, but are not utilizing Federal mandated hiring practices and excluding minorities from their process. The address is 2621 Airport Freeway, Irving, TX. 75062. The meeting starts at 7:00 p.m. Please plan to be there by 6:30 p.m. if you plan to speak.
